If you are concerned that owning a Hot Tub will mean endless hours of maintenance this brief guide should allay your fears, it is in fact a fairly straightforward process to keep your spa water clean and safe.
But for those of you who would like to conserve your time whilst visiting the Algarve we can provide a range of Maintenance Contracts, whether it’s just occasional help, or a comprehensive weekly service, to suit your requirements.
Remember:
A Hot Tub is not a Swimming Pool and requires a different water care regime, many swimming pool maintenance companies treat them in the same way as a pool.
Below we highlight the main points you will have to cover on a day to day basis in order to maintain your hot tub in sparkling condition.
You will need to test the spa water prior to making any adjustments and this is very easily done with AquaChek Trutest Strips, they give you readings for sanitiser level, pH, Alkalinity and water hardness in about 20 seconds.
Daily (before use): approx’ 2 minutes.
Check the Sanitiser Level;
This is the amount of “Free” Chlorine, or Bromine present in the water and should be between 3 to 5 ppm (mg/l) and dose accordingly.
If you use EcoOne the level of sanitiser can be reduced to just 1 to 2 ppm.
Check the pH level: This should be slightly alkaline and be between 7.2 and 7.6. If it is not within these parameters use AquaSPArkle pH Plus or pH Minus to adjust.
If there is slight foam on the water surface, scoop off with a piece of cardboard, or treat with Hot Tub Anti Foam and clean the water line with AquaSPArkle Spa Surface Cleaner.
Weekly: approx’ 10 minutes.
Shock the Hot Tub water with AquaSPArkle Non Chlorine Shock, this helps with sanitiser function and removes contaminants to give sparkling, clear, water.
Clean the Filter with a hose pipe, or Water Wand and swap with your spare, dry filter.
Monthly: approx’ 5 minutes.
Add Hot Tub Scale Away, to prevent scale deposits building up in your spa.
Clean the Filter with AquaSPArkle Immerse Filter Cleaner in your dishwasher, or soak overnight in a suitable container and exchange with your spare, dry filter.
Periodically (every 2/3 months): approx’ 90 minutes.
Add Spa System Flush to the Hot Tub water run the pumps for an hour, then drain.
Clean the spa shell interior and the underside of the cover with AquaSPArkle Spa Surface Cleaner.
Treat the topside of the hot tub cover with Protectant 303.
Add clean water, balance and sanitise.
